Nyacker Jumpstarts New Scholarship

Grant will go to college-bound seniors and juniors in Rockland

Kim-Adele Rosner has been helping to spotlight outstanding women in Nyack and Rockland for years. But she recently had an idea: why not honor the region's young women, too—and with a scholarship.

Rosner—an associate broker at Wright Bros. Real Estate on South Broadway and board member at the Nyack Center—is tethering a new scholarship to this year's Women of Leadership and Vision brunch at the Nyack Center.

"The scholarship is funded by community members that want to honor those who are making a difference in their community and focus on caring for others," Rosner said.

The Nyack Center brunch has been honoring outstanding women for nearly a decade, but, due to Rosner's vision, will now help college-bound girls with tuition and application fees, too.

"At first it was $500," Rosner said. "But then community members said, 'that's a great idea,' and stepped up and matched it."

Now, the total is at $1,500. It will go to one college-bound senior, and a smaller portion will go to a junior to help pay for applications.

The deadline to apply is March 8; students can apply by clicking the application in the adjacent photo gallery. Any girl in Rockland may submit an application.

The pool then will be narrowed down to a hanful of finalists, who will present their case to Nyack Center board members and the public one evening at Maria Luisa Boutique in downtown Nyack.

Board members and the public will then vote on a winner, Rosner said.

Also set to be honored at the upcoming brunch are five Rockland women, including Katie Berry of Nyack Soup Angels and Victoria Hurtz of the Edward Hopper House.
