How Are Nyack Schools Dealing With the Water Advisory?

Students and teachers take extra precautions

Nyack's current water dilemma—a surplus of coliform bacteria in the water source—has led to .

But how is  affecting local schools?

The current alert, issued by the Rockland County Department of Health, affects only the Nyack Schools’ administration building and , said Gail Fleur, the district's communication director. The other schools in the district—including —receive their water from United Water and are not affected.

Nyack Middle School and the administrative building are making sure to follow specific protocol, Fleur added. Water fountains are being covered, kitchen staff are cleaning all eating utensils and students and teachers are being urged to use hand sanitizer. Additionally, all sinks in the buildings have signs that read, "Do not drink—hand-washing only."

Also, the middle school has bottled water to dispense to students and staff, and those who brought in water bottles filled with tap water are being told to discard them.
