Gillibrand to Visit West Nyack, Talk LGBT Legislation

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will visit the Nyacks for the second time in as many months Thursday evening, this time to discuss legislation that impacts gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender residents in the Lower Hudson Valley and beyond.

Gillibrand is slated to attend a roundtable discussion at , where she will sound off on federal LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) laws and grants.

"These roundtables bring together the LGBT community to talk about pressing issues," said Joseph Coe, a life-long Rockland residents and community liaison with VCS Inc., which runs Gay Pride Rockland. Coe will be at Thursday's meeting, he said.

Talking points on the agenda will likely be federal immigration issues that same-sex couples face, and how to create support structure for the local LGBT residents.

Nyack's former mayor and , John Shields, is openly gay.

Gillibrand was last in Nyack in late August, . She also about the Republican National Convention.
