It’s a Family Barn Dance

When/Where: Friday, Nov. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. Rockland BOCES, 131 North Midland Ave, Nyack
Why Go: The Barn Dance features live fiddle music and traditional fiddle tunes from Ireland, Appalachia and New England. Kids welcome. Fun raffles, cider and donuts.
Proceeds benefit the Blue Rock School's Ruth Schaeffer Scholarship Fund.
Cost: $10 per person

 

Lazar, the Good Deed Dog

When/Where: Sunday, November 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. /JCC of Rockland, West Nyack
Why Go: Author Myrna Gelman Shankar reads her book, Lazar the  Good Deed Dog followed by a book sale, signing and craft project. Lazar, a rescue dog, has a mission is to bring a smile of joy to residents of a nursing home. This intergenerational event is perfect for grandparents to accompany their children and grandchildren. Children create a related art project which will be donated to local nursing homes. The event will conclude with a performance by Luke Montgomery of Music for Aardvarks. Event for two- to six-year-old children.

Grand Opening of Bounce! Trampoline Sports, & Charity Fundraiser

When/Where: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Nov. 5 at 612 Corporate Way, Valley Cottage
Why Go: The grand opening let’s you experience the new facility with 100 percent of proceeds being donated to the four area groups:

  • CHILD CARE RESOURCES OF ROCKLAND INC.
  • CLARKSTOWN FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER
  • PEOPLE TO PEOPLE INC.
  • UNITED WAY OF ROCKLAND COUNTY


A big fan of trampoline sports has generously agreed to match dollar for dollar the amount raised that day, up to $5,000. The non-profits will split the bonus based on the percentage of people who sign up to jump for their charity that day.

Retro Game Stop

When/Where: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Pearl River Public Library
Why go: Join in playing old favorite games such as Twister, Monopoly and Spit. For those who have never played, just jump in and learn. For children in grades four through seven.

Rockland Music Conservatory Opening Concert

When/Where:  7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Conservatory’s new home at 45 Main Street in Pearl River
Why go: The Conservatory just moved into a newly-renovated building in Pearl River after over 50 years in Spring Valley. Get a look at the new facility and take in the music of Django Reinhardt.

Carnegie Roon Jazz Concerts

When/Where: Friday, November 4, 07:30 pm Nyack Public Library, 59 S Broadway, Nyack
Why Go: Cedar Walton is one of the most acclaimed and influential jazz pianists of his generation, and a designated NEA Jazz Master.  He first rose to prominence as a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in the 1960s, and has performed and recorded with many seminal modern jazz figures including John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, and Wayne Shorter.  He is also well know as the composer of several jazz standards.
Cost/Contact: $25
