Police: Eggings in Nyack, Grand View, Piermont

Cars up and down the river villages have been hit with eggs, authorities report

A long ride down 9W, a carton of eggs and intent to cause mischief is more than enough to raise the ire of residents and snag police attention.

South Nyack-Grand View Police are investigating a series of drive-by eggings that have left parked cars in Nyack, South Nyack, Grand View and Piermont covered in yolk. The most recent incident occurred last Saturday night—Jan. 14—when residents awoke to find their cars defaced.

Over 10 cars were hit in Grand View, and a handful of others throughout the river villages, said Robert Van Cura, South Nyack-Grand View's chief of police. An empty egg carton was found in Piermont on Sunday morning, he added.

"It's been happenings intermittently for the past year," Van Cura continued. "Every other month or so."

Police described the incidents as "nuisance crimes" that would carry a charge of criminal tampering—or, if the cars were damaged by the eggs, criminal mischief. Both are misdemeanors.
