Nyack man accused of illegal driving in Piermont during police chase

Steven Butterfield is accused of down 9W.

But the 31-year-old Nyack man is now facing charges in Piermont, too.

"He interfered with the safe flow of traffic in Piermont," said chief Michael O'Shea, whose helped arrest Butterfield after he was stopped by . "He nearly caused other accidents."

Butterfield has been charged with unlicensed operation and reckless driving by Piermont authorities.

Butterfield is also accused of crashing into a state park vehicle on 9W during the chase; no one was injured, but Butterfield left the scene of the accident, O'Shea said.

In total, Butterfield is facing 10 traffic violations in the village of Piermont. In Nyack, he has been charged with grand larceny, DWI and other vehicle and traffic law violations.

  • Joel Rivera, a 34-year-old Nyack man, was arrested on 9W in Piermont at 1 a.m. on June 17 and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third-degree. O'Shea said Rivera was stopped for having tail lights out, and was consequently found to be driving without his license—it was revoked due to a prior DWI. River was issued tickets and will appear in July 11.
