A gas leak apparently caused by a truck hitting a building's gas service connection has a section of Main Street in Nyack closed to traffic and has forced the evacuation of at least six downtown buildings.
Volunteers from the Nyack Fire Department and crews from Orange and Rockland Utilities are at the scene of the gas break at 163 Main St., Didier Dumas Patisserie.
The gas leak was reported at around 9:30 a.m. after a truck struck a gas service line. Nyack firefighters described the break as having caused a major leak. The leak forced the evacuation of Didier Dumas Patisserie as well as buildings next to it and behind it.
No one was reported injured in the incident. Main Street is closed from Franklin Street to Midland Avenue as emergency workers attempt to cut off the gas leak.
