Car Trouble Not Likely in Thruway Death

Police investigate possibility of suicide

The case of a 50-year-old Thiells man who pulled his pickup truck off to the side of the Thruway in Nyack Monday morning, jumped in front of a truck is still under investigation, state police said Tuesday morning.

The victim has been identified as Robert Mahoney. The truck driver received no injuries, and has not been charged.

Police are not sure whether the fatal collision was accidental or a suicide, said state police investigator Skyler King.

"We're investigating both theories," he said.

King noted authorities do not believe Mahoney was having car trouble. "We don't suspect that at this time," he said.

The incident occurred at about 10:50 a.m. halfway between exits 11 and 12. Northbound traffic was snarled as local and state authorities responded.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
