Obituary: Mary Anne Mooney, 85

Mary Anne Mooney, a resident of Orangeburg since 1959, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2013 surrounded by her family at Nyack Hospital.  

She was born on July 31, 1927 to Michael and Margaret (Lyons) Fitzgerald in Manhattan.  Mary was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Manhattan and attended Mt. St. Vincent's College in the Bronx.

Among the many occupations she held throughout her life, Mary was a monitor at Tappan Zee High School, an secretary for Volvo Corp. in Rockleigh, NJ and a teller for Anchor Savings Bank in Orangeburg, NJ.  

Mary was also a devout parishioner of St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt and stayed active in the church bingo. She was known for her witty sense of humor and loving personality and will always be remembered for her friendly and compassionate nature and her pride for her Irish heritage. Mary will be sorely missed by many. 

Mary was predeceased by her son Thomas C. Jr. who died in 1998.  She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas C. Sr.; her children Christine Mooney of Piermont, Mary Jane Feuster and her husband Perry of Stony Point, Kerry Mooney and his wife Susan of Seattle, WA and Eileen Scollan and her husband Thomas of Tappan; her grandchildren Erin, Eric and Ryan Feuster, Michael and Megan Mooney, and Patrick, Brianna and Brendan Scollan.  She was also predeceased by her sisters Jane Fitzgerald, Eileen Fitzgerald and Catherine Weldon. 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday 11 a.m., at St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt with burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill. Visiting hours will be Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary's honor to either the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or the National Alzheimer's Association (www.alzfdn.org).
