Nyack Historical Society Reopens

June's in Nyack took a toll on local businesses and homes—but also Nyack's history.

The Nyack Historical Society, which recently moved into its new headquarters at the DePew House (50 Piermont Ave.), was one of many structures affected by the rushing rain water.

Luckily, no historical pieces were destroyed in the flood; most valuable relics are stored off-site. The society only had its carpet damaged by the water. Still, the group had to close its doors to clean up and dry out.

Now, the doors are open again. The headquarters is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, and will be open the same time during the September 25 and October 9 street fairs. Current exhibits include a look at the famous Hopper House and how it avoided demolition, an 1862 quilt and more. History buffs who want more can head over to 's Carnegie Room to check out the exhibit "Early Photographs of Nyack."
