Send a Letter Stamped with Nyack History

New Helen Hayes stamp to be released this month

Next time you send a letter to an out-of-town friend, include a subtle reminder of Nyack's past.

The U.S. Postal Service will release a stamp on April 25 that commemorates actress Helen Hayes, the "First Woman of American Theater" who spent much of her adult life living in Nyack.

Hayes' local haunt was Pretty Penny, a sprawling Victorian on North Broadway with Hudson River views and a meticulously-groomed garden. The home is currently on the market for nearly $6 million. (For a look inside, click .)

The stamp was created by artist Drew Struzan, whose past work includes movie posters for the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. His rendition of Hayes is based off a 1958 photograph, when the actress was 58-years-old.
