Grieving Friends, Family Say Farewell to Mark Lennon
The second of two funerals held in Rockland comes one week after a tragic boating accident, and just days before the wedding for the late bride.
On the banks of the sparkling Hudson River, and amid bagpipes and legions of grieving family and friends, 30-year-old Mark Lennon was mourned at a funeral service Friday morning, one week after a late-night boating trip went tragically wrong.
Lennon, of Pearl River, had services at St. John's Church in Piermont, just a short way from where a powerboat carrying him and five others slammed into a construction barge last Friday night.
A lengthy queue of cars stretched along Piermont Avenue in Piermont, and hundreds of mourners shuffled out from under a blue sky and into the darkened brick church for an 11 a.m. service.
Lennon was slated to be the best man at friend Brian Bond's August 10 wedding. The to-be bride, Lindsey Stewart, was also killed in the collision. Stewart's funeral was held during Thursday's dreary weather in Pearl River.
Bond was a passenger on the powerboat, as well, but was plucked from the Hudson River without life-threatening injuries.
