Piermont: $2,400 Canoe Swiped

Police investigate a stolen canoe

are working to track down a $2,400 canoe that was stolen last weekend—and the thief who swiped it.

A Westchester couple rowed across the Hudson on July 16, tethered their boat to the shore on Ferry Road and went to dinner in Piermont. When they returned in the evening, their craft was gone, Piermont Police said. The canoe was secured with a steel cable.

Police describe the canoe as a red Swift model that is 15 feet long, 38 pounds and a two-seater.

Michael O'Shea, Piermont's police chief, said that although the village has several marinas, boat thefts are not common. "But this canoe is easily identifiable," O'Shea said. "It's not mass produced."

Police are asking anyone who may have knowledge of the crime to contact them at (845) 359-0240.
