Nyack's Memorial Park Ready for Return of Baseball

Backstop erected, DPW workers spruce up field.

Nyack village DPW workers were busy at Memorial Park today preparing the new baseball field for opening day of play for local Little Leaguers on Saturday.

A new backstop for the baseball field at Memorial Park was installed this week around home plate, and village workers today removed barriers designed to keep people off the new infield created for the baseball field.

Players in the Nyack-Valley Cottage Little League are scheduled to begin playing on the new field at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, following an Opening Day Parade through downtown Nyack at 10:15 a.m., ending at Memorial Park. An Opening Day ceremony is set for 11 a.m. at the park.

There will be music, food and games for kids and adults during the ceremonies.

Memorial Park has long been one of the home fields of Nyack-Valley Cottage Little League, which has its main field at Liberty Elementary School. The field, however, was not available for the 2012 season because of Nyack's ongoing efforts to renovate Memorial Park.

The renovation has included construction of a new basketball court and relocating the baseball field from the south side of the park to the north side of the park.
