Baseball, Softball Playoffs Washed Away Again

The Tappan Zee baseball team would have happily welcomed news that they would be playing May 29 a little over a week ago. That is when the Section 1 Class A baseball championship was scheduled to be played at Provident Bank Park.

That was also before rain washed away most games for four days of Section 1 baseball and softball competition, including Thursday through Saturday last week, with Sunday and Monday blocked out due to the holiday.

Rain once again forced the cancellation of the Section 1 Class A baseball and softball games at Tappan Zee and Nyack's Class A first-round game at Brewster Tuesday. Nyack Athletic Diretor Joe Sigillo said the Indians were on the way and had to turn the bus around again Tuesday. All of the games were rescheduled for Wednesday.

The Tappan Zee baseball team will play Somers in a Class A quarterfinal game 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, but the site has been moved to Veterans Park. All Section 1 baseball games were rained out Tuesday.

Most of Tuesday's softball games were also rained out. In addition to Nyack making the trip to Brewster again, there are two Class A softball games scheduled at Tappan Zee. Byram Hills will play Albertus Magnus in a preliminary-round game at 1 p.m., with the winner sticking around to take on No. 3 Tappan Zee at 3:15 p.m.. The start times for those games were moved up because Albertus Magnus has its prom Wednesday night.
