South Orangetown School Voters Approve 2013-14 Budget, Reserve Spending Proposal

The South Orangetown Central School District 2013-14 budget passed with 71.1 percent of the vote Tuesday.
There were 983 votes in favor of the budget and 400 against the budget, which calls for a 3.46 tax levy increase which is within the state mandated cap.
Proposition 2 passed with an even higher percentage, 81.1, with 1,094 votes in favor to 255 against. This approves the use of $975,000 from the District-Wide Renovations and Reconstruction Capital Reserve Fund for security improvements to all of SOCSD's buildings.
The third item on the agenda was the board of education election, but current School Board President Rosemary Pitruzzella and Dan Lamadrid were the only candidates for the two opens seats. 
Elsewhere in Orangetown, the school district budgets in Nyack and Pearl River also passed Tuesday.
