The Palisades Mall has got to do something about the warning system in place. If something really serious happened and evacution had to happen quickly, it would be a deathly nightmare. A girl who works with me was at the mall when the alarm went off. It is an annoying noise and no one knows what it means. I was there with my son to see a movie several years ago and the same thing happened. There is an announcement, but you cannot understand it. the acoustics in the mall i are terrible. Any elderly with hearing problems will be totally lost. She thought it said " This is a test" No security guards were around to guide people where to go.She tried to get out at Barnes and Noble it was closed. No quick exits are marked. They need to revamp the warning and evacuation system now, before something really serious takes place and people die as a result.

It's hard to understand the announcements, then you try to exit the parking lot such as the one at Target and you have to drive up and down the aisles until you find the right way out. I agree, a very dangerous situation if something serious does take place.

They dont even inform the stores what os going on and then to tell customers that we dont know is embarrassing. Palisades needs to work on this before something really bad happens. They have no concern for the employees or the people who shop there.

Failure to evacuate a business when the fire alarm sounds is a Fire Code Violation punishable by fines - perhaps if the Clarkstown Fire Inspectors would start issuing these fines the management and business owners in the mall would start to take them more seriously. However the biggest offender is Mall Management (including Security) who really have no interest in this issue. The only thing that gets peoples attention these days unfortunately is a hit to their wallet - if thats what it takes so be it - Charleen above is right - something serious happens anywhere in that mall and its a disaster in the making - it would easily take an hour to evacuate shoppers and employees from that entire place. Security doesnt even care about cars blocking the fire lanes when emergency vehicles respond to the mall why would they care about any other safety issues.

The mall security guard is going to stop illegally parked cars? That's just silly. That security job has to be the worst job ever. Nobody will listen to them and frankly it's dangerous to put them in that position. Clarkstown PD should patrol the ring road and fire lanes. Issue tickets where appropriate. I see people making the illegal left out of target all the time. Also, with a mall that size there should be a foot patriol in the mall. Way to much happens in that mall that is not publicized.
