Drug Incident in Nyack Leads to 6-Year Prison Sentence

Haverstraw man was passenger in car stopped on New York State Thruway.

A Haverstraw man who was a passenger in a car stopped by police on the New York State Thruway in Nyack has been sentenced to six years in prison for possession of 10 ounces of cocaine.

Emmanuel Quezada, 29, of 145 Broadway, Haverstraw, was in a car stopped by a state trooper at 6:25 p.m. on March 21, 2012, for having illegally tinted windows and an illegal sticker on the rear window. Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said the trooper noticed the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the car and a search led to the discovery of a small amount of marijuana and a daggers.

Zugibe said a search of Quezada later led to the discovery of 10 ounces of cocaine in his waistband.

Quezada pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and as part of his sentencing in Rockland County Court in New City he will be required to complete two years of post-release supervision when he gets out of prison.
