Boater Rescued From Hudson River Off Nyack

Man was clinging to small boat.

A boater who fell into the water and was clinging to a small boat was rescued tonight by Nyack volunteer firefighters.

Cries for help heard from shore led to Orangetown and South Nyack-Grand View police and firefighters to search the waterfront until the man was spotted about 100 feet off shore from the Nyack Marina.

Nyack Fire Department Chief James Petriello said rescuers were not certain, at first, where the cries for help were coming from. He said the department's rescue boat was able to reach the stranded man within a few minutes of him being spotted. The Piermont Fire Department also launched its boat to help in the rescue, but they were turned back as they reached the Tappan Zee Bridge because the stranded boater had been found.
