[UPDATE] Serious Injuries in TZ Bridge Accident

Traffic is cleared now, report Tarrytown State Troopers.

Update 3:20 p.m.: State troopers in Tarrytown report "serious injuries" following a two-car accident just before 2 p.m. today on the southbound lanes of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

The roadway is now cleared, state police report, but traffic was blocked for over an hour while emergency responders from both Tarrytown and Nyack fire departments made their way to the scene. 

One car apparently went to change lanes, hitting a car that had been disabled on the bridge, police said.

Following emergency extrication, one person was transported to Westchester Medical Center while the other went to Nyack Hospital. Members of Nyack Community Ambulance and Sleepy Hollow Ambulance along with Rockland Paramedics assisted at the scene of the accident.

2:20 p.m.: A southbound traffic accident on the Tappan Zee Bridge has blocked two lanes of travel and is backing up traffic into Rockland County.

Central Nyack and Tarrytown firefighters were called out to the bridge to assist with a rescue operation from the accident.
