Obituary: Thomas Alworth, 82

Thomas “Tom” (Farmer) Alworth passed away peacefully at age 82 on July 18 after a long illness. 

Alworth was born on Aug. 20 and served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. 

He was described as a man of peace and kindness who loved nature, and enjoyed hiking and fishing.

Alworth worked in construction for many years, eventually retiring as a construction manager in 1995. He even built his own home in South Nyack, as well as a cabin in the Catskill Mountains.

Alworth was a volunteer with the Orangetown Fire Company No. 1 for 67 years. He joined as an auxiliary member when he was 15-years-old.

His wife of 60 years, Mary Asaro Alworth; his daughter Maryann Hotvedt; his granddaughter Nikki Alworth Hotvedt; his son Thomas J. Alworth and his wife Sandra Bargman Alworth survived him.

His life will be celebrated at on Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack.
