Spring Is In The Air!

Spring through the eyes of a teenage girl—and a huge baseball fan

When did spring really begin?

It seems like it has been spring since Halloween. That is so crazy to say! Especially living in the greatest state in the world, where we expect the winters to be bitter cold.

I'm not going to lie, I love the cold—I'd much rather be freezing-cold then hot. When I'm hot, I feel like I need a shower... but in the winter, there is nothing like cuddling up wrapped in a blanket with a good book. Also, I must confess a day off from school isn't bad, either. Even from work, it's nice to get a break. Everyone always works so hard, a snow day is like a treat. But this year, we were robbed of a treat.

Well, spring is a time during the year to do some cleaning, bring out those flip flops, get ready for baseball season and get out of that house that's held you hostage during the cold months. Just last week my mom forced me to tidy my room for "spring cleaning." I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a cleaner—I don't think I will ever be one. But I must report back that not only did my room look cleaner, but it also smelled cleaner and didn't look like a "typical teenager room," as my dad likes to put it. I also was very fortunate to find a lovely bracelet behind my desk. It was blue with dolphins on it that i didn't even realize I had! Don't you love when that happens? It was a very cute bracelet that I wore the very next day.

Another thing I absolutely love about spring is the chance to make my fantasy baseball team... I'm a huge Yankee fan. So of course my first draft chose would be without question the sandman himself, Mariano Rivera. Whenever I'm making my team, I really only follow one rule: THERE WILL BE UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE ANYONE FROM THE BOSTON RED SOX ON MY TEAM.

I don't care how good the player is—if he dons those stupid red socks, he will not make it on to my team. If you call yourself a New York baseball fan, there is no way anyone from Boston should even enter your thought process during the draft.

However, when drafting, don't just go by the uniform they wear (unless it's a Boston jersey). For example, every year I try to draft Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins. Every year with the exception of last season, he has produced. Also, one must take into consideration the players passed injury history. The best example is Buster Posey of the San Fransisco Giants who missed almost all of last season with torn ligaments as a result of a plate collision with Scott Cousins. I'm sure this year Posey will rebound and pick up this season like his previous season.

Spring is just an overall good time anywhere you live. We have spring cleaning, start of baseball season and, most important, the end of school to look forward to!
