Nyack High School's Athletic Hall of Fame

Can we create a sports Hall of Fame for Nyack High School? Let's start off with some suggestions—and hope other Indians contribute

In one of my previous blogs, someone asked why there was no Hall of Fame at .

I don't know the answer to the question—I would surmise it might have something to do with the school board's "political correctness" point of view or policy.

But with that in mind, I suggest we create one, right here on Nyack Patch.

Ok? We need a few guidelines: to start, I suggest we elect only 12 people to the new Hall of Fame to keep this easy. We can always add additional names later.

I will start with a few suggestions... I hope you folks will fill in the blanks:

  • Football: Jermaine Harris is the all time leading rusher in Rockland County
  • Baseball: Ronald Royster had a blazing fast ball in the early 60s
  • Soccer: George Beim was an outstanding goalie. (Wasn't there a great forward a few years ago?)
  • Track: Dave Billings, NHS all time distance runner and a NYS record holder
  • Basketball: Al Taylor—one the best scorers of all time
  • Ronnie Edwards, another all-time points man
  • Girls' athletics: Dawn Royster was the dominant basketball player of her age

Our final selections do not have to be these twelve—I am sure there are others. I do believe our selections should first take into account the exploits of the player while in high school, and then second what other athletic feats they accomplished after high school.

Okay, your turn. Will you fill in the blanks for Nyack sport fans?
