TZ Blood Drive Nets Strong Results

The Tappan Zee High School Blood Team collected 176 units of donated blood during its November Blood Drive this year.

The turnout was strong enough that the NY Blood Center sent additional technicians to help cut down on the wait time for donors gathered in the gymnasium at Tappan Zee.

Members of the TZ Blood Team also joined advisor Judy Flagg, the nurse at the high school, for the NY Blood Center kickoff of its 2014 blood drive at the IBMCenter in Somers. The event was also a celebration of 50 years of service by the NY Blood Center.

Flagg gave a presentation entitled "The Power of One," detailing three blood drives at Tappan Zee High School during the 2012-13 school year, during which volunteers and donors overcame obstacles such as snow, floods and oppressive heat.

Tappan Zee High School has won competitions for units raised for three consecutive years, form 2010-11 to 2012-13.
