"Great Grandma's Kitchen" Exhibit at Historical Society of the Nyacks

The winter season, with its cold nights and holidays, is a great time to take a nostalgic step back in time and visit “Great Grandma’s Kitchen“, courtesy of the Historical Society of the Nyacks.
The new exhibit features an array of antique implements from a typical 19th century home. Cast iron cookware, enamel pots on an old stove; tinware shakers, rolling pin, yellowware mixing bowl and cookie cutters on the kitchen table; aprons on a hook, collections of bottle openers, mezzalunas and hand cranked appliances, are just a few of the items that may remind you of childhood visits to the home of a beloved elderly relative or give younger folks a glimpse of some of the joys and hardships of life a few generations back.
Also included are evocative treasures from the rest of the home as well, such as a dining table set for two, a display of lamps and candlesticks, and a few children’s toys. The dining/living room will be arranged around the original coal-fired parlor stove that is a permanent part of the nineteenth-century building housing the exhibit.
"Great Grandma’s Kitchen: Household Implements of Long Ago" will be open to the public from 1 to 4p every Saturday through December, January and February, at the Historical Society of the Nyacks museum, Suite L-2 of the Depew House, 50 Piermont Avenue, Nyack.  It may be seen at other times by appointment.
