As a child, Daniel Dixon, the son of
iconic photographer Dorothea Lange and visionary Southwester paint Maynard
Dixon, came to recognize hisparents’extraordinary gifts, but his view of them
changed dramatically during the Depression, when he and his younger brother
were “farmed out” to a series of foster homes, never knowing when they might
