Bern Cohen Book Discussion -"Behind The Schoolhouse Doors"
Retired high school principal, Nyack resident Bern Cohen, wrote the TRUE STORY of a sexual deviant, his 12-year-old victim,
and the Hudson Valley educators who defy authority and work with police to catch the
perpetrator, their boss, their School District Superintendent.
Before Coach Sandusky rocked Penn State football and the
nation’s athletic world, School Superintendent Robert Parkman was arrested and
jailed for sexually molesting a boy in a scandal that rocked the nation’s education
community.
The District
Attorney’s Grand Jury Report said that Bern Cohen, the victim’s high
school principal, was the only school official to report concerns of abuse to
the police. Cohen chronicles the psychological details and political
obstacles he and his staff faced during the 18-month effort to save the child,
which also leads to the Superintendent’s jailing.
