After 47 Years, American Red Cross to Sell Nyack Property
Broadway property seeks new owners
After almost five decades, the American Red Cross is selling their historic building at 143 North Broadway in Nyack.
The property is being offered at $550,000.
According to the deed, the American Red Cross purchased the building in 1965. The property was originally purchased for $1,500 in 1882 by newlyweds Julia and Garrit Blauvelt. Garrit was a physician and surgeon in that house for more than 50 years; he was also the director of the .

Garrit and Julia built their home around 1884, and over the years made several additions to the original structure. The Queen Anne-style home still retains many of the original period details.
Although the building is zoned as a residential two-family, the Nyack building department said the property can either be restored back to a residential dwelling or it can continue as a commercial building.
