Sunday: Kick-off Event For West Nyack Heritage Group

They're meeting March 10 at the West Nyack Library from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. This is family friendly with youth activities upstairs, refreshments in downstairs conference room. The event is free, but donations are appreciated

West Nyack residents gathered with a common goal last year and after forming The recently created the Heritage of West Nyack, they're now preparing for the kick-off event for the community.

This civic organization was started to give the hamlet a collective voice and to preserve the heritage of West Nyack. The introduction of the Heritage of West Nyack comes at a very timely moment with the demolition of the Teabury Port House and the beginnings of the hamlet's revitilization project that is scheduled for 2015.

The reception to intruduce Heritage to the community is Sunday, March 10 at the West Nyack Library from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m with a short presentation at 2 p.m. and again at 3:30 p.m. There will be information about the organization, pictures from the hamlet's past and discussion on some historical mysteries unique to West Nyack. They also plan to bring the community up to date on the effort to preserve the historic Traphagen and Vanderbilt houses on Germonds Road.

Heritage plans to engage in many activities designed to focus on the rich history of the hamlet, promote projects to improve its ambiance, security and appearance and act as a liason between the community and the town of Clarkstown.

Heritage was chartered in April. In November, the Heritage received its 501c3 status as a not-for-profit organization. Heritage is seeking membership from businesses, individuals and families to fund its activities. Membership is tax deductible.
