Nyack to See Two New Frozen Yogurt Shops

In the past decade, self-serve frozen yogurt has made its mark, moving from California to New York, and then quickly trickling down into the suburbs.

Nyack is no exception, with Yo-Serve currently operating on Main Street. And by mid-summer, the village’s downtown will welcome two new fro-yo shops to its slate of restaurants and retailers.

Cloud 9 and Sublime Yogurt, two self-serve shops, will open mere feet from Yo- Serve, in hopes of capitalizing on the fro-yo trend.

Cloud 9, opening in July, will be replacing furniture store Theodora’s Gracious Living, which will move to a new location in New Jersey. Sublime Yogurt will be located across the street in the Main Street Promenade, and, according to the sign posted on its façade, is set to open shortly.

Of the name Cloud 9, owner Matthew Akedemir says it was his daughter’s idea.

“She said when you’re on cloud 9, you feel total happiness,” Akedemir told Patch. “That’s how I want my yogurt to make you feel.”

Akedmedir hopes to get to know the town of Nyack personally, he said, and share great yogurt. Akedemir also addressed the inevitable competition.

“At the end of the day it’s what you do for the people,” he said. Akedemir hopes his store will rise above the rest, he added.

While competition may be fierce, all three stores could find their niche—in New City, 16 Handles and Yogurt Sensations share a street block, too.
