Whether the victims are here in Rockland County, or in New York City, Long Island or New Jersey, local taverns say they are reaching out to the Nyack and Piermont communities for help in providing assistance to Hurricane Sandy victims.
Tonight in Piermont, there is a fundraiser at The Turning Point - "Musicians Rock For Piermont" – featuring local musicians Tom Chapin, The Old No. 7 Band, Joe Grunfeld, Becky Deloatch, Billy Procida, John Whoever and more.
Doors open at 7, with the music kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25, with proceeds going to the Piermont Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary. The Turning Point is at 468 Piermont Ave., Piermont, 845-359-1089.
The Pour House in Nyack today started collecting canned food, clothing and blankets to assist people hit hardest in the area by Hurricane Sandy. The Pour House says it's also going to donate 10% from food sales to help hurricane victims.
To drop off a donation, the Pour House, 102 Main St., Nyack will have a collection area at the front of the restaurant during its operating hours, 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily. The collection with run through Friday. For more information about how to donate, call 845-727-7687.
The Pour House also says that residents who still do not have power can stop by to charge their phone or other electronic devices at the tavern – no purchases are necessary.
On Tuesday, Olive's in Nyack has organized "Blanketfest" to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Blankets and non-perishable food items will be handed out to storm victims from 5 to 10 p.m. Marianne Olive says anyone in need is welcome.
Donations of blankets or other items that can be used by people without power, water or heat at their homes can bring items for distribution to Olive's, 118 Main St., Nyack, by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Those without power are also welcome to a free cup of soup at Olive’s during Blanketfest. A large selection of bands will be entertaining the crown during the event.
