Jimerson Seeks Second Term on Nyack School Board

With the Nyack School Board elections slated for Tuesday, May 17, Nyack Patch is publishing candidate profiles. Incumbent Board Trustee Claudette Jimerson talks about her first term and what she hopes to accomplish if elected to another

Patch: What are the most important attributes of a School Board member?

Jimerson: As a school board member we must always remember that we represent the people in our community. We must be willing to listen, learn and always keep the main focus on the children we are educating.

What do you believe are the most important issues facing the Nyack School District in the immediate future?

The most important issues facing the district in the immediate future are:

  •  Fiscal issues—budget, permanent aid, tax cap.
  •  Challenge of meeting the needs of taxed community.
  • As we examine teacher and principal evaluations, we have an opportunity to get it right and provide students with an education that can compete with the rest of the world in the 21st century.

During your tenure, what do you believe is the most important thing the School Board has accomplished?

Since I have been on the board, we have frozen administrative salaries, tax increases have been the lowest in the county budget to budget and we have in the tri-state area to head the school district.

What is your message to the voters?

We must work together as a community. We must also reach out to the business community for their best practices and emulate them. It is our obligation to provide a 21st century education to all of the children in our district. United we stand, divided we fall!
