Marching Band, Musicworks Donate Sound System to Nyack Music Department

The Nyack Public Schools board of education recognized the Nyack High School Marching band for winning two New York State Field Band Contests this past weekend, but they got more than they expected.

The marching band and Musicworks used a mixture of fundraising and a Selis Grant to purchase a $10,000 digital sounds system, which they donated to the school district's music department Tuesday night.

"You don't know how proud I am of you and what you've done," School Board President Claudette Jimerson said. "Absolutely fabulous."

Chris Speziale of MusicWorks joined with Emma Sundvik and Harrison Santone to show of the two trophies the band won last weekend and to share the news about the sound system. MusicWorks made the purchase and the band is still raising money to pay for it.

"Congratulations to the marching band on winning tow awards," School Board Trustee Karen Hughes said. "(Band Director) Michael Smith continues to do some really great stuff."

Nyack Public Schools Music Department Chair Joe Piccirillo pointed to the work of the students, Smith and assistant banddirectors Matt Lucero, Dru Pluhowski, Mike Humphrey and Steve Yankov.

The Nyack marching band won last Saturday at Irvington and Sunday at a competition in the Albany area. They will be in Long Island for a competition this weekend, then go to Syracuse the following weekend.
