August 14, 6:30 PM – Last Stop, USA, Embarkation Point at Piermont Pier – There will be a ceremony held at the end of the Piermont Pier, Piermont, New York. At this event, a plaque will be unveiled, commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the creation of Camp Shanks, and the 68th Anniversary of V- E Day, the end of the War in Europe. A total of 419,491 persons (equal to 573 trainloads) embarked and disembarked from Piermont Pier during the existence of Camp Shanks. The pier is located at the east end of Paradise Avenue, Piermont, NY. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Tappan Fire Department will provide an honor guard, Pete Marino from the Piermont VFW will help lead the event, which will include poetry by Orangetown’s poet laureate Rose Marie Raccioppi.
