Nyack Fire District Election Tuesday

Voters in the Nyack Joint Fire District will head to the polls from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at two locations.

In addition to voting for a Fire District Commissioner for a five-year term, they will cast their ballots regarding three propositions.

One proposition would allow the district to extend its participation in the state retirement benefit program for volunteer firefighters. A second would refinance the mortgage on the Central Station on Park Street through $3 million in bonds. The third would approve a $400,000 bond to pay for repairs to Emprie Hose Co. No. 1 in Upper Nyack.

The full notice of election is posted here

The Nyack Joint Fire District is divided along Main Street in the Village of Nyack. Voters to the south will go to Depew Manor Senior center at 60 Depew Place. Those residing to the north of Main Street will go to the district office at 13 Park Street.

The fire commissioners oversee the financial operation of the district. Board of Commissioners chair Keith Taylor, a member of the Nyack Fire Patrol, is running for re-election. Peter Wortendyke, a member of Jackson Hose Co. No. 3, is challenging for the seat.

Both candidates posted on Nyack-Piermont Patch regarding the election. Taylor's post is here. Wortendyke's is here
