I was born at a very early age in Stratford Connecticut, however before I had a chance to set down roots we moved. In fact, we moved eleven times before I graduated from high school, so it's a bit difficult to select one place as my home town. It seems that my mother's idea of spring cleaning was to simply up and move, leaving the dirt behind.
Soon after graduating from Bunnell High School, again in Stratford, I joined the Navy to help save the world from "the evil empire" and perhaps see a bit of it in the process. I served mainly on Destroyers with some time off to tour a brig or two. It seems I've never handled authority well.
Coming out of the service with a background in electronics, I tried my hand at a couple of jobs in that field and was doing quite well. Then, with a stroke of genius that can only be attributed to too much beer, I decided to become involved in retail. To make a long story short (something I'm not prone to do) I ended up retiring from Sears after thirty-two "fun filled" years.
For over thirty-seven years I've lived here in Naugatuck, Connecticut and have raised my three children, one boy and two girls, with the help of my lovely, and very tolerant, wife Kathy. While all my children are grown and are married, we still share our house with Sidney, the cutest cat in the world, and two other felines.
I have served for a number of years on Naugatuck's Board of Finance as well on the Republican Town Committee and the River Walk Committee. In addition I have been an active member of the Naugatuck Garden Club almost from it's inception.
I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts and experiences with the readers of "Patch" much as I did many years ago in the old Naugatuck Daily News. I hope you enjoy reading me as much as I enjoy writing.
