The annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service was held Sunday.
Alexia Conklin-Cole never met her Uncle Jason, but she certainly knows a lot about him, specifically that he loved Snoopy and practical jokes, one of which that’s famous in the family and resulted in someone being pushed into mud. Alexia, nine, of Monroe, never got to meet her uncle because Jason Conklin died 15 years ago. The Tuxedo Police Officer was 22 years old. On Sunday, Alexia was at the Rockland County Courthouse in New City to remember her uncle, along with her mother, Stephanie Conklin-Cole, and Jason’s sister, and her parents, Sandy and Jake Conklin. Officials: Stop work order issued; renovation being done without permits, OSHA investigating workplace violations. Firefighters, workers exposed to asbestos.
The Village of Spring Valley has issued a stop work order at the old Spring Valley High School, where officials said renovation work being done without permits led to the collapse of a mezzanine in the auditorium and a worker being briefly trapped in the rubble. Although two workers suffered only minor injures in the collapse at the building, now the site of the United Talmudical Academy, officials said workers and emergency personnel were exposed to asbestos inside the building. Spring Valley Fire Department Capt. Ray Canario said that all of his departments volunteers who were in the building on Friday to investigate the collapse had to turn in their firefighting "bunker gear" so it could be bagged and stored in a secure area to be …

Their careless and short-sighted decisions had the potential to cause serious loss of life.” Fidel Padilla, 53, of 97 Croton Ave., Cortlandt Manor, …
