Robert John Bertolacci Jr. of Valley Cottage died suddenly on May 12, 2012. He was 21. Born on March 25, 1991, in Nyack, Robert graduated from Nyack High School in 2009 and was a student at Arizona State University, where he was studying Criminal Justice. Robert had plans to become a New York City Police Officer and had already been accepted into the Police Academy class of 2012. He was an avid Giants fan, and played football for the Valley Cottage Indians and later for the Nyack Indians. He was the son of Robert and Karen; brother of Christina and Taylor; grandson of Mary Crowley and Gloria Bertolacci. Robert is also survived by four aunts, four uncles, and 13 cousins. Stanley Ralph, EdD, retired Professor of Performing Arts at Rockland Community College, died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the age of 81 after a long battle with cancer. Known as an upbeat man who always tried to comfort others, Dr. Ralph was fond of quoting the words, “I am too blessed to be stressed.” Dr. Cliff L. Wood, RCC president, said, “when I spoke with Mrs. Ralph last Friday, she told me that Stanley was in his final hours, and that he had asked her to tell me how much he loved RCC.” Dr. Wood continued his statement with “Stanley was a very talented professor and he will be missed by many.” Dr. Ralph, of West Hempstead, NY, began at RCC in Ramapo in 1991 and retired in August 2011. Stewart W. Baltimore of Nyack, New York, died March 23, 2012, at his home. He was 63. Mr. Baltimore was born Aug. 16, 1948, in the Bronx, NY, to Stewart and Katherine (Cooper) Baltimore. He attended Dobbs Ferry High School in Dobbs Ferry, NY. He continued his education at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. After finishing his degree, he began an illustrious career as an insurance agent representing Allstate Insurance Company. Mr. Baltimore was long active in Nyack-Valley Cottage Little League and had even served as president of its board of directors. He was a loving husband and a devoted father. Tappan Zee High School senior, Rockland Community College student died in crash on New York State Thruway.
A funeral service for Quincy Marie Hedges of Sparkill is set for Saturday, Feb. 25, at Grace Episcopal Church in Nyack. Quincy died Saturday as a result of an auto accident on the New York State Thruway in Plattekill, NY, while traveling home with friends. She was 17. She was a student at Rockland Community College and had attended Tappan Zee High School and the Green Meadow Waldorf School. Quincy was described as an avid photographer, a good friend and a loving daughter. Quincy is survived by her mother, Wendy Lee MacDowell; her grandmother, Wanda MacDowell; her father, Earle Hedges; a niece, Moira MacDowell; and, many family and friends. Dr. Wagdi F. Ibrahim of Nyack, chief of the Section of General Surgery at Nyack Hospital, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. He was 65. Dr. Ibrahim, a beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother, and uncle, touched countless lives through his 26 years of service as a surgeon at Nyack Hospital. He will be remembered for his compassion toward his patients and their families, his warmth and camaraderie among his colleagues and his unwavering dedication to the Nyack community. Kevin Townes died of an apparent heart attack.
Westchester firefighters today mourn the loss of one of their own, 54-year-old Mount Vernon firefighter Kevin Townes, who died of an apparent heart attack at the scene of a house fire this morning. Townes, a 25-year veteran of the fire department, was one of more than 20 firefighters who raced to the scene of a fire early this morning on Lorraine Avenue. Fire officials said Townes collapsed suddenly and died at Mount Vernon Hospital despite efforts to revive him. Officials noted that Townes had recently passed a mandatory physical exam and city officials said the married father of three children was one of the city's outstanding firefighters. Robert J. Schettig, a retired Rockland County Sheriff Deputy Communications Officer (call sign "K-double E - 398…4-5") and longtime Nyack volunteer firefighter, died unexpectedly, Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 at home. He was 58. The son of the late Eileen and Harold Schettig, he was born on Aug. 19, 1953 in Nyack, NY. Mr. Schettig was a Lifetime Member, Past-Ex Captain and Engineer of Mazeppa Engine Company No. 2 of the Nyack Fire Department. His legacy of Firematic Service lives on through his sons, who are also volunteer firefighters. Douglas H. Doller, a volunteer Nyack firefighter for more than 54 years who was recently named an Honorary Battalion Chief, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. A lifelong resident of Rockland County, Mr. Doller was born May 3, 1939 in Nyack to the late Josephine and Frederick Doller. Mr. Doller met the former Mary Walsh, whom he called "the love of his life" and they married Aug. 27, 1961, in St. Peter's R.C. Church, Haverstraw. Mr. Doller deeply loved his family and was devoted and happily married to Mary for 50 years. Mr. Doller studied at Farleigh Dickinson University and was employed by ITT Continental Baking Company for more than 30 years, retiring in May 2000. He and …

Scott Burton, 41, passed away from a heart attack in Vermont Sunday. He had been Orangetown's director of Environmental Management and Engineering since Sept. 2010.
Guy DeVincenzo, Clerk of the Works for Orangetown, worked closely with Scott Burton most of the past year. Then he got a call from Orangetown Supervisor Paul Whalen Sunday telling him that Burton had passed away from a heart attack Sunday morning. Burton was 41. "We're just shocked," DeVincenzo said. "Anyone who worked with Scott can tell you what a great man he was. Just a guy that talked truth, honesty and fairness. He was loyal to the organization. He was unflappable. This was a guy who came here from private industry and lent his expertise when we needed it desperately. We loved him here."
