Stephany machines break down all the time. Thank goodness only 8 gallons was spilled. There is a…Read More diesel fueling station in Clarkstown executive park that is located maybe 20 feet from a stream that feeds the reservoir, now that could be a disaster....

If they would revisit the $1.5M penalty that they forced tax payers to carry when they rejected the…Read More elementary school re-alignment proposal back on December 4, 2012, the tax raise could be lower or they could stop exporting our Special Ed kids to other districts. They don't need the 1% that live in Upper Nyack and Valley Cottage to get re-elected this year! Share the burden!

It makes no difference who runs for the School Board. We had change last time. No difference. On…Read More December 4, 2012 they all voted to force South Nyack and Nyack residents who live south of Main Street to subsidize lifestyle choices of Upper Nyack and Valley Cottage residents, and punish our Special Ed kids who get outsourced to other districts and excluded from our community. Please don't treat the school like a prison. If you treat the kids like they can't be trusted,…Read More guess what, they'll prove you right, if for no other reason than resentment over being treated like children. Just because there are a few individuals that might present problems, addressing it by punishing everyone is silly. With parental permission, students should be allowed to leave the campus.

What you are forgetting here is private schools can select the students they admit, and…Read More remove any student who is not working to their standards. Public school do not have that right. They must admit, and educate every student, from the truly gifted to the truly disabled. You cannot compare the two, in all fairness.

Dad01,
Prep school. Your daughter will not be bored. She will find a passion. Every parent I know…Read More sending their child to private school is extremely happy (except for the cost). The students love it. I'm so impressed with the work I've seen at some of the schools. There are no bored students. Public school teachers will say those schools are well-funded. Funny, they have the same budgets as public schools, And teachers at the prep schools get paid less than public school counterparts . The only way we can change public school is SCHOOL CHOICE.

I'm not an educator so I'll leave much of this to the knowledgable, trained educators, the research…Read More etc. But, here's what I'll say: My 6th grader is bored out of her mind. I am amazed at how little school has changed from over 40 years ago when I was in 6th grade. What else can you think of that has changed so little in 40 years. Secondly, outside of school, and professional certifications/tests etc. where else are we tested? I've been working for 30 years and have never taken a test. I could care less what my kid "knows". What I do care about is that she can think, reason, analyze, apply, synthyesize, hyphothesize, deduce, estimate, write, defend, etc. etc. How does a test asking if you know the parts of a flower do so in any way? All of this testing is just plain stupid. I'm not whining, coddling my kids or enabling anything.
