Shelly Schadt and Spiro Mandarakas face numerous grand larceny and stolen property charges, April 14, 2014
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) April 14, 2014 at 05:20 pm
In case you were suggesting that Patch was being PC here, I should tell you thatRead More "undomiciled" was the department's word. That makes it police jargon. I have changed it in the article.
Charles Clewsow April 14, 2014 at 06:08 pm
Fixed address? How about shelter challenged?

Ladies....please be careful! Don't leave your purse for a split second in a shopping cart. Only takeRead More your license and credit card that you plan to use. These theifs can turn your life upside down in a split second. Watch who is leaving the store the same time as you, look to see who is standing around and try to have someone with you if possible. This happened to my Mom years back and what a mess to untangle! Let's be smart.

I thought all these youth killings stopped after Comrade Como purged the Second Amendment last JanRead More '13. Looks like we should ban all knives as well.

According to a post on the Yahoo Group Nyack Social Scene, La Fontana was going to charge $10 extraRead More for brunch this Sunday because it is Palm Sunday AND a Street Fair day. Guess that this story (that ran as almost-lead on the NY tv networks) is payback time La Fontana. Enjoy extra business from increased "traffic" - don't rip people off !!!!

Thanks, Eight4Five. Man this site is horrendous.

The Editor is merely following the Corporate policy.

Names of those arrested, unless minors are public record. So, what is the reason for theRead More "Corporate Policy" .....I can't wait to hear this one.......

AND...my objection to our Police is that they leave their car motors running - polluting for ages -Read More WAY past the County three minute limit (which no-one seems to know about anyway). Does it really take so long to start up the motor for a chase, ticket, etc.? Rockalnd law is 3-minute idle limit - ice, snow, cold, or heat
willie 6 April 14, 2014 at 08:35 am
WE THE PEOPLE pay for the gas. observed a police car in front of PIERMONT VILLAGE HALL running andRead More came back the other way a half hour later and the POLICE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. WHAT A WASTE !

I think it's great! Should be a priority everywhere, not just the highways. Might make someRead More enemies here, though that's not my intent. A thought though; how do police give tickets for using mobile devices when they themselves use them while driving without hands-free devices?

At least they caught him. He will receive a harsh slap on the wrist but nothing more.

For starters I'm sure you meant rehab not AA. Rehab unfortunately for the most part is a joke.Read More There's some success stories but mostly scamming junkies and drug dealers who actually use rehab as a network for buying/selling narcotics. Sorry to rain on the parade but that's the sad truth. What we need is strict drug sentencing and harsher minimum sentencing, not court ordered koombayah programs.
Charles Clewsow April 5, 2014 at 10:01 pm
Actually I did mean AA or NA. Both work. Both are self supporting from their own donations. Both areRead More out of the realm of government who screw up everything they touch. These feel good programs are useless but the press loves it as do the PR people for our overpaid police.
Tara Weiss April 12, 2014 at 12:21 pm
I would like to personally thank the Clarkstown Police dept.for taking initiative and getting in theRead More front line of an epidemic that is infecting our children. Thank you Patch and News twelve for your extensive coverage and attributing to public awareness!! This drug has no boundaries!! All hands in!!!

I hope they target our road. Every morning we witness cars zooming by in both directions. There haveRead More been at least three accidents, one which almost involved the bus, in short time we've lived here. Everyone is in such a rush.
Rocco Peroni April 2, 2014 at 06:57 am
Don't EVER pass a stopped school bus, whether it's Thursday or not.
Gregg April 2, 2014 at 03:08 pm
I'd like to think they are going to ticket at least 100 drivers doing this.

What is a "vulnerable adult"?
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) March 31, 2014 at 06:55 pm
The Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert Program is activated when a vulnerable adult (at least 18 yearsRead More old or older) with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, autism or other cognitive disorder, brain injury or mental disability is reported missing and is at credible risk of harm. http://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/missing/aware/missing-vulnerable-adult.html

Kinda figured that would be the case usually coyote wants no part of human contact. Unless corneredRead More or protecting its den 99-100 will run the other way.

There is a lecture tonight, Wednesday March 26th at 7 pm that is relevant to control ofRead More coyotes…… 10 Patriot Hills Drive, Stony Point, NY 10980…...Cornell Club of Rockland presents a lecture at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Education Center... Cost: $10 …….. "Homeowners and landowners often see significant damage to their trees, shrubs and property from browsing deer and other wildlife….. Robert F. You should learn about St Francis of Assisi. But be forewarned, you might be shocked.
Robert F. March 26, 2014 at 01:17 pm
Brad, I am aware of St. Francis' compassion for animals and the annual blessing of the animals, etc.Read More Please do not confuse compassion with this disturbing trend towards exalting animals to the same level as humankind. God gave man dominion over the animals, as explained in Genesis. I'm no biblical scholar, but I think that if you are Christian, then what we are told in scripture supersedes our personal interpretation, which may include the mistaken idea that animals exist on an equal basis with man. I love animals and would never torment, kill or otherwise abuse an animal, but they exist for the use of man as a source of food, beasts of burden, companionship, etc. I just object to this increasing national confusion of priorities and values with respect to human and animal life.

Hey, Shawn, the police report was issued Monday afternoon, I wrote about it Tuesday morning, and asRead More prthinker says, above, it was resolved by Tuesday afternoon. The reporting was timely.
prthinker March 19, 2014 at 12:24 pm
Well...Actually OPD released the resolution notification before 2, I believe, because PRSD'sRead More circulation of the update was sent to the community before 3p. The email Patch sent to our emails this morning had the unresolved Monday story as its subject line and its lead story belies the timeliness assertion. Even the JN had it right by midnight yesterday, but they have a whole team covering Rockland and Westchester, while it seems Ms Taliaferro is holding down the fort and covering the same geography on her own.
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) March 19, 2014 at 03:55 pm
Well prthinker, I agree with some of your points, though not all. And I shouldn't have respondedRead More defensively.
