Resolutions such as calling for the issues conference are non binding, however allow the residents…Read More to know how our elected leaders stand on important topics. While I am sure many who oppose the issues conference simply want to stop the desal plant from being built, many others have raised legitimate questions which deserve answers. I fully support the desal plant and applaud UW for being proactive. With the announcement of Bloomberg coming to Orangetown our water supply requirements will continue to go up.

Restricting water to control growth is crazy. It sounds like something China would do to punish or…Read More control one of its comunities. So our governments, zoning , and planning boards are so corrupt we have to maintain a dangerously low supply of water to control them ? Nonsense. This is just the latest tactic by the folks who have made it their cause to stop the plant for no good reason but to show what a powerfull lobby they are. When it comes to the quality of Hudson water or the effect on wild life the enviro groups know, if you keep telling the same lie over and over again people will start to believe it

OTOH. I wonder how many of these unfriendly ungrateful politicians will tell their rate payers at…Read More this "issues conference" that if the plant is not built, the $45 Million spent on a plant mandated by the DSC will be added to their water bill. And they will have no water to show for it. If they are successful in delaying and then stopping the plant the cost will be even greater, perhaps $60 million, and still no water. This little tidbit was left out of their bought and paid for analysis. Do you think it was a fair analysis without including this little fact?

What brought on this legislation? Has there been some kind of violence directed at animals owned by…Read More the government. I read a lot of news and have not seen that to be the case.

@ Charles Clewosw- Yes, we all would like to be assured of sufficient, clean water. But water taken…Read More 3 miles downstream of a leaking nuclear plant cannot provide that. Indian Point is leaking radionuclides into the river 3.5 miles upstream from the proposed site. Reverse osmosis cannot remove tritium and does not remove trace amounts of strontium 90. Our cancer rates in Rockland are high enough. Why would we further jeopardize our health? Even United Water admits they cannot filter out tritium and strontium-90 present in the Hudson River It is unacceptable to subject Rockland residents and businesses to the risks of this massively expensive project, without a full and independent review.

Unfortunately John this has little to do with cost or purity of water and more about the Hsuds…Read More expanding. Guys like Diviny from OTown readly admit it, willing to give up the supply if water for their grandchildren rather than go after the politicians in their party who cow tow to the Hasids. Consider Divinys comments another PATCH. artice today.
"If we don't take into consideration the growth in Ramapo and what the desal plant will allow to happen there, it's a disservice to our kids and grandkids," Diviny said. "If we vote against the issues conference, basically we are green lighting Ramapo. I think we can't do it. Also, the residents of Orangetown that have reached out to me want the issues conference. I haven't gotten one text, one email or one call form a resident who doesn't want it."
DISGRACEFUL AND COWARDLY.

We need to increase our supply of water just to catch up with our growth over the past 50 years. The…Read More Hudson is the most abundant source we have and that is where the new supply will come from. The only reason we now need an issues conference is to debunk the missinformation put out by enviro groups ( their bought and paid for study ) and to give polititions who are afraid of these groups something to hide behind when the plant finally gets approved. Hopefully this plant will be completed befor a drought like the one over the western US hits us. Build the desal plant now.

Charles you are right about when ownership changes, but this different, it's about a contract funded…Read More by the FTA and they have rules that have to be followed if the county chooses to accept the funds. One of those rules is employee protection and any union contracts in effect at the time of transition.

I am sure tbst you must be aware that as ownership changes in any organization, the risk of not…Read More being retained increases. I have been through it more than once and, if handled correctly ( that means no Union whining), you will come out stronger for the experience.
