First Friday, Street Fair Highlight Local Activities

The streets of Nyack, Piermont and the surrounding area will be very busy this weekend, as will the surrounding area.

First Friday in Nyack

  • Where: Parts of Main Street, Franklin Street, Broadway, Burd Street and Hudson Ave. in Nyack
  • When: Friday, Sept. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Description: The Nyack Art Collective presents this monthly event showcasing the work of visual artists in the Nyack area. Musician Jim Gatti will be at the Main Street Gazebo with drawings and stories by Bill Batson at Nyack Village Hall from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and street performers all through the village. Also check out the "Before I Die..." chalkboard project.

Homes for Heroes Tag Sale

  • Where: Homes for Heroes at The intersection of Western Highway and Independence Ave. in Tappan
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • Cost: Free admission
  • Description: This cash only tag sale will go on rain or shine (moving inside in case of rain). At the former location of Camp Shanks. Volunteers will be at the site from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 to accept items donated for sale, which will also be accepted Saturday. The sale benefits Homes for Heroes, which provides rental apartments in Tappan for disabled and homeless veterans. 
Piermont Civic Association Crabfest
  • Where: Goswick Pavillion on Ferry Road in Piermont
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 from noon to 5 p.m.
  • Cost: $20 for adults, $10 for kids. Beer and wine cost extra. 
  • Description: Maryland crabs are only part of the menu for the feast, which also includes hot dogs, corn on the cob, coleslaw, desert and beverages.  The Jug Addicts, a 10-piece band, will provide live music. No reservations necessary. 

Nyack Pub Crawl for Rebuild Hi-Tor

  • Where: Starts at Harbor Hill, 91 Main Street in Nyack
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 from noon to 6 p.m.
  • Cost: $30 per person. Raffle tickets cost $5 for 10, $10 for 20 and $20 for 40. 
  • Description: The stops for the 2nd Annual Nyack Pub Crawl to Benefit Rebuild Hi-Tor Animal Shelter include Harbor Hill, Casa del Sol, Pour House, O'Malley's and Bourbon Street. First 100 people to RSVP receive a free t-shirt. 
New City Fire Department Hosts RCVFA Parade To Celebrate Its 125thAnniversary
  • Where: The line of march begins on Little Tor Road at Williams Street, turn onto Collyer Ave and go up South Main Street to New Hempstead Road, New City
  • When: Sat. Sept. 7, the marchers step off at 2 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Description: New City Fire Engine Co. #1 is marking its 125th anniversary and hosting the 101st Rockland County Volunteer Fireman’s Parade. More than 30 separate fire departments from around the area, as well as over 100 fire trucks will be participating! Proudly leading the parade will be the world famous Budweiser Clydesdales!
Nyack SeptemberFest Street Fair
  • Where: Main Street and Broadway in Nyack
  • When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8
  • Cost: Admission is free. 
  • Description: Over 250 vendors will line up along Broadway and Main Street in Nyack for the this event, sponsored by the Nyack Chamber of Commerce. In addition to the shopping and the food, there will be live music in the Main Street parking lot, street performers and a kids' carnival.
