Monday, Oct. 14

• The Bardonia Civic Association is hosting a candidates’ night at 7 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Parrott Road, West Nyack. Candidates in the races for Rockland County Executive and Clarkstown supervisor, town council, highway and judges will participate. 
  

Tuesday, Oct. 15

• The Association for the Visually Impaired and co-sponsors, the New York State Commission for the Blind, Rockland Independent Living Center and Lions Club District #20 R-1, are celebrating Rockland County's first “White Cane Awareness Day” from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Palisades Center. The event will be held on the fourth floor and is designed to increase public awareness about the importance of the white cane as a tool for helping blind and visually impaired people live with greater independence. • The Rockland County Legislature will meet at 7 p.m. at 11 New Hempstead Road in New City.
  

Wednesday, Oct. 16

• A Rockland County Executive Candidates Debate will take place at Dominican College at 470 Western Highway in Orangeburg at 7 p.m. Leadership Rockland is hosting the debate. 
  
• Nyack Public Schools will hold the last of three public information sessions regarding the proposed $26.4 capital project referendum 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Nyack High School. The district is currently taking applications from those who need absentee ballots. Read more here. 
• Aryeh Green is director of MediaCentral , a Jerusalem-based project of HonestReporting, which provides support services for  journalists based in or visiting Israel and the region. A former senior advisor to Natan Sharansky, Green will offer an insider’s perspective on the roots of the press' hostility towards the Jewish state and will discuss MediaCentral's radically different approach to Israel's challenges in the media. The free lecture at the Jewish Community Campus at 450 West Nyack Road in West Nyack begins at 8 p.m. Read more here. 
  

Thursday, Oct. 17

• The Rockland College Fair at Albertus Magnus High School on Route 304 in Bardonia is free and begins at 6 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. High School juniors, seniors and their families will find college information including curriculum, campus life, intern programs and admission procedures. There will also be an opportunity to win an iPad.
  
• Zumba to support Homes for Heroes from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Tappan Zee High School gym Thursday. Read more here. 
• Retired high school principal Bern Cohen, a Nyack resident, will discuss his book Behind the Schoolhouse Doors 7 p.m. Thursday at Nyack Public Library. The book tells the real-life story of a 12-year-old sexual abuse victim and the educators who fought to save victim from the perpetrator, the school district's superintendent. Read more here. 
• The Big Brothers Big Sisters Of Rockland Mentor Enrichment Meeting begins at 7 p.m. at its office at 65 North Main Street in New City. It is located in the Capital One Bank Building opposite Shop Rite on the second floor. Those who are not currently mentors, but are interested in learning about volunteering as a mentor are welcome. • Nyack Village Theater will present two Alfred Hitchcock one act performances folllowed by a showing of one of his movies 8 p.m. Friday, with further showings Oct. 19, 25 and 26. Read more here.
