Tuesday, Nov. 19

  • The Rockland County Legislature’s session begins at 7 p.m. with three public hearings on the propose 2014 budget. The first hearing is on the proposed 2014 budget of $760,864,295, which carries a 9.9 percent tax increase and the second hearing is on overriding the two percent tax cap. The third public hearing deals with several different approaches to handle remaining part of the county’s budget deficit of $128 million, which is not covered by the $96 million deficit reduction bond that the governor authorized last week.   • The Orangetown Council will hold a special meeting 8 p.m. at Orangetown Town Hall to adopt the town's 2014 budget. The public hearing on the budget, which began Nov. 12, will be continued. 
Wednesday, Nov. 20
  • Rockland Community College's student veterans are sponsoring a dodgeball tournament to benefit Homes for Heroes at 3 p.m. in RCC's Levy Fieldhouse. Cost to play is $5 per person and $20 per team of four. Spectators get in free. Find out more here
Thursday, Nov. 21
  • The American Lung Association of the Northeast will be celebrating the Great American Smoke out and Lung Cancer Awareness Month from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. near the courtesy county on the main level of Palisades Center Mall. There will be games and information about how to quit smoking. 
  • Join Rabbi Jeffrey Abraham for Hanukkah stories, coloring Hanukkah Sesame color sheets and eat Hanukkah Gelt at 4 p.m. at Barnes & Noble in West Nyack. Get more information at 845-358-3767 or csioffice@optonline.net.
  • Attend the Casino Nite & Holiday Boutique to help raise funds to finish the indoor riding arena at the Children of Promise Stable/COPS Barn that is being built in memory of 9/11 First Responder Tommy Foley. The event begins at 6 p.m. at Casa Mia Manor House in Blauvelt $25 tickets include a buffet, beverages, coffee and desert. Buy tickets here.
