Monday, Dec. 2

  • The Rockland County Aids Consortium is sponsoring Rockland's World AIDS Day Observance from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nyack Library at 59 South Broadway and the Nyack Center at 58 Depew Ave. 
  • Court proceedings regarding the election for Orangetown Supervisor will continue at 11 a.m. at the Rockland County Courthouse in New City. Read the latest report here
Tuesday, Dec. 3
  • The Village of Piermont Board of Trustees meets 7:30 p.m. in Piermont Village Hall. The request to donate a memorial lighthouse in memory of Mark Lennon and Lindsey Stewart by their families is among the topics set to be discussed. See the full meeting agenda here.  
  • The Orangetown Council meets 7:30 p.m. at Orangetown Town hall in Orangeburg. 
  • The Nyack Pubic Schools Board of Education meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Hilltop Administration Building will include a presentation regarding options for the capital improvements that are part of the $26.4 million referendum approved in October. The full agenda is here
Thursday, Dec. 5
  • The second annual Nyack Winter Farmer's Market kicks off with a ribbon-cutting at 8 a.m., with live entertainment provided by jazz and blues musician Sam Waymon  from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., all at the Nyack Center at 58 Depew Ave. 
  • United Hospice of Rockland will hold its annual recognition event for veterans 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Salvation Army Conference Center at 440 West Nyack Road in West Nyack. 
  • The Celebration of Women for Venture runs from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Hilton Pearl River. The event honors the contributions of Rosemarie Carollo, Eileen Murphy, Sue Sherwood and Bonnie Werk to Camp Venture. Tickets cost $60. Buy tickets online or find out more here
Friday, Dec. 6
  • The Nyack High School Writer's Guild Spoken Word Slam begins 2:30 p.m. in the Nyack High School Auditorium. Read more here
  • Nyack's First Friday begins at 5 p.m. and features a free concert, Winterfest with Sukey Maolloy & Friends, at the Nyack Center at 6:30 pm. and the tree lighting at 7:15 p.m. at the Main Street Gazebo. Find out more here
  • The Pearl River Elks Hoop Shoot free throw contest begins at 6 p.m. at Highview Elementary School in Nanuet. Registration is at 5:45 p.m. The contest is free to boys and girls who will be between eight and 13 on April 1, 2014. Find out more here
Saturday, Dec. 7
  • The Deckade fundraiser for the Nyack Skate Park runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Nyack Fencing Academy at 40 Lydecker Street. Find out more here
Sunday, Dec. 8
  • The 22nd Annual Orangetown 5K Run begins begins with kids races at 10 a.m. and the 3.1-mile race at 10:30 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Orangeburg. Pre-registration is $20 and race day it is $25. Find out more here
