Swim the Hudson, Save a Life

Annual Swim for Life benefit slated for later this month

Later this month, the Hudson River will host about 250 swimmers eager to swim from Sleepy Hollow to Nyack.

Sept. 10 marks the 20th annual Hudson River Swim for Life, a program that benefits the Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). raised over $260,000; this year's will honor Julia Pierce, a Harriman resident who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age four. Pierce underwent chemotherapy for 27 months, and is now in remission—and at age seven, gearing up for first grade.

LLS officials said the Rockland and Westchester municipalities are always ready to help.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Sleepy Hollow and Nyack communities again for this event," said Dennis Chillemi, Executive Director of LLS’s Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter. "There has never been a better time to come together to celebrate the Hudson, while at the same time help others with blood cancers."

The swim is slated for starting at 8 a.m. at Kingsland Point Park in Sleepy Hollow. Approximately 100 kayakers and 25 boaters will join the swimmers as they cross the Hudson.
