Nyackers walk to and from Hook Mountain for charity

A group of Nyackers woke early on Saturday and marched to Hook Mountain and back for charity.

The fundraiser, titled Hizzhonor's Hike to the Hook, was organized by Nyack Mayor Richard Kavesh and the My Haiti Committee of Rockland County. Dozens of residents turned out at 7:30 a.m., walking about three miles from Veteran's Park downtown to the foot of Hook Mountain—and back.

Individuals who walked donated $25; proceeds were split between relief efforts in Haiti and Japan. The Haiti benefactors are a school and an orphanage that have been helped during previous fundraising events by the My Haiti Committee; the recipients in Japan were selected in consultation with leaders of the Japanese community.
