Nyack Gym Looks to Fight Cancer

Advanced Body Personal and Athletic Training Center donates to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

Nyack's is gearing up for spring workout regimens, but with a charitable twist—a portion of the gym's earnings will go to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

The initiative is the effort of Gabriel Rinato, who recently joined as co-owner at the training center at 174 Main Street, tucked behind Nyack Creek.

"We want to get clients fit and healthy, and donate to a good cause at the same time," Rinato said. He also operates a gym in Westchteser, and lost his father to cancer in 2005. Rinato's uncle is currently in remission, and a close friend is also battling cancer.

Nyackers and others can stop by Advanced Training and Fitness for a $99 spring assessment—it includes a health overview, nutrition advice and two training sessions. A portion of the fee will be passed along to the cancer hospital, Rinato said.

Rinato and Massaro note the spring training is not reserved for athletes—"we've helped hundreds in Rockland get stronger," they said. Currently, the two are training residents between the ages of 13 and 82.
