Nam Knights To Honor Black Veterans Buried At Mount Moor

Small cemetery in West Nyack is surrounded by Palisades Center mall.

The Hudson Valley Chapter of the Nam Knights Motorcycle Club is set to have a wreath laying ceremony Saturday at Mount Moor Cemetery to honor the veterans buried at the historic West Nyack grave site.

"For too long the military service of black Americans has been overlooked or taken for granted," said Charlie Maushardt, president of the Nam Knights Hudson Valley Chapter. "This is a way to make sure that these veterans are recognized and not forgotten."

Mount Moor, which is surrounded by the Palisades Center mall, has been a longtime burial place for members of local African-American families — with veterans going back to the Civil War buried there. The Nam Knight are following the tradition of placing wreaths every Dec. 15 on the graves of military veterans at Arlington National Cemetery.
