Heat Advisory Still in Effect in Nyack Tuesday

The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning Rockland residents to avoid fatigue, sunstroke, muscle cramps and heat exhaustion during Tuesday’s extreme weather.

A heat advisory is again in effect until 8 p.m., as the heat index is around 100. An index between 100 and 104 triggers the advisory.

Temperatures in Nyack will rise to 96 degrees. The weather will stay hot and humid on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 94 degrees. Click here for Nyack’s forecast.

The temperature in Piermont will hit 95 degrees on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, while thunderstorms are expected on Thursday at 94 degrees. Click here for Piermont's forecast. 

The NWS is advising the public to drink plenty of fluids, stay in the air-conditioning, stay out of the sun and to check on relatives and neighbors. Try to avoid working outdoors or schedule frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.

If you don't have air conditioning or a cool place to stay you can hang out at Nyack Village Hall at 9 N. Broadway or the Nyack Senior Center at 90 Depew Ave. in Nyack. 

Clarkstown residents can also visit their nearest community center during normal business hours to keep cool, they are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturday, community centers in Congers, Pascack and Center Nyack will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Street Community Center, 31 Zukor Rd., New City, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, while the Conger Community Center, at 6 Gilchrest Rd. in  Congers, will be open on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Rockland County Office of Emergency Services says the steamy weather will continue for the rest of the week. Orange & Rockland Utilities, which has declared a heat alert, warns of potential power outages.
